Male feminists part 3: A whole website dedicated to pro feminist guys.

What do pro-feminist men believe?
Pro-feminist men are sympathetic to feminist understandings of society. "We believe that women as a group suffer inequalities and injustices in society, while men as a group receive various forms of power and institutional privilege. The current, dominant model of manhood or masculinity is oppressive to women, as well as limiting for men themselves. We also recognise the costs of masculinity: conformity to narrow definitions of manhood comes with the price tag of poor health, early death, overwork and emotionally shallow relationships".

  1. Dear Johan;)
As I see it, I agree with you in the fact that Humanism and feminism have many agendas in common, and you can be both. Still there are many big differences between those two. I will name two:
    1. As to why feminism requires a distinct agenda within the equality movements? The special and distinct problem of Patriarchy both oppressing and directly harming women, and limits men. Unless gender inequality is directly addressed and acted against, general equality activism will not be enough.
    2. I know you are a biologist, but it’s a known fact that there are many hidden power structures in our language ;P You might reflect upon why you find the word human more neutral then feminism. MAN has become the norm (human) and woMAN has become the exception, excluding women from many roles and positions in society. Why is then so disturbing to use feminism as a gender neutral word to describe a person who is working for equal rights between men and women?

The Catholic Church has as you might know, rewritten the bible.Example:
    Genesis 3:15:
    15. I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. 1
In the Anglican Authorised (King James) Version the verse is:
    15. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 2
This explanation given by a Catholic bible translator (approved by the Church) Monsignor Knox, 1954,

  2. 1. Patriarchy isn't necessarily oppressive and the same goes for matriarchy, but if, oppression is acted out by individuals by humans towards other humans. If I didn't get hired because they wanted a woman doing the job, since women statistically have other attributes than men, so what?

    2. Where is the evidence? How is such a semantic difference "excluding women from many roles and positions in society"? You have more letters, I feel oppressed!

And I wouldn't say disturbing, only misguided and possibly doing humanity a disservice.
